We inherited a bunch of old family photos on slides. We need a projector, at least to go through them and decide what to convert to photos or digital images.

I'm in Magnolia, so anywhere that's a reasonable drive from here would be okay.

Wont sell mine, I'm willing to lend it out for free. I'm in the Kingwood area.
Dead people are notoriously bad at returning calls.

I also have one (and a lot of carousels) and metal storage cases that I'd let go. I'm digitizing ALLLLLL of them over the 4th.

Late to the party, but I have one with several empty carousels that I can lend for the same price as Psycho.

How have/are y'all digitizing?

FTR, a neighbor let me hers, but every once in a while, a little shutter inside gets stuck and the screen goes completely black. I have to disassemble it and kind of open that shutter with my finger… and it's getting old. I'm not desperate for a loaner just yet.

I'm renting a SlideSnap, because a lot of these photos are really old (1950's) and need some color correction that I can do in Lightroom or Photoshop. It's pricey, but the quality + speed is what sold me on (renting) it.

Amazon. If you wait, long enough, I'll sell mine to you at a discount.

That works for me.

I've had these slides over a decade, so I guess waiting a little longer won't hurt anything.

5 stars, would recommend. Did 2000 slides in about 3 hours.

The stack loader doesn't work well at all, so slides have to be in a carousel but that wasn't a big deal for me. Sample image below.

Thank you for remembering. Did you find the color was transferred correctly and did you have to adjust focus very often? I suppose you didn't considering the number of slides you did in 3 hours. Also, what memory device did you transfer to?

Color transfered very well, including slides that had turned red over time.

The Sony camera that comes with the projector auto-focuses and stores the images. I was photographing in RAW so that I could color correct the slides I knew that were damaged. It stored about 1200 images before I had to transfer them via provided USB cable to my laptop. I am using Lightroom Classic to do color corrections and crop images as there's a larger black outline around the images.

I did a few for a friend last night and saved them all as JPEG instead of RAW as they were much more recent photos and didn't need the level of color correcting that some of mine did.

ETA: all slides need to be in landscape orientation regardless of the actual photo so that you capture the largest frame size. If any slides are in portrait orientation the image will crop top/bottom. Kindof a pain to flip them, but not terrible.

Thank you. Out of curiosity, were most of your slides in Kodachrome ?

I believe I have one collecting dust in the shop storage if anyone else is looking for one. I'll see today or tomorrow.
