This little truck is built like a Tacoma and very reliable. I looked for long time to find one in this condition with low miles and with factory silver metallic paint(color code s23). I still smile ear to ear when I'm in it.

I've never had a single issue out of it. 3 cylinder EFI so it starts right up in any weather and runs like a top. Will easily run 70mph down the road. No leaks of any kind. It's been kept in my shop year round out of the weather. Never mudded or worked hard. Just used on my property. No rust at all. Does not need a thing done to it. Ready to go.

Manual 5 speed transmission

High/low 4x4 transfer case

AC and heat

Recent service genuine Daihatsu Air filter. I have a spare Toyota oil filter to go with it.

New Yokohama Geolander M/T 145/80R12 tires. Less than 10 miles on them.

Tinted windows. No cracks in the windshield. Interior is in fantastic condition. No weird smells or damage. Kept very clean.

6.5' bed with bed mat and all three sides fold down.

57,706km = 35,857 miles

Asking $8500 OBO

No shipping unless some major details are worked out first. Cash or cashiers check only. No exceptions. Negotiations in person only. Cash in hand before test drive and you must know how to drive a manual.

Would consider trades for a manual 2x4 or 4x4 Tacoma, 4 runner or Compact Kubota cab tractor.

Are these type vehicles street legal?

Could it be registered like a standard vehicle? The reason I ask is if so, it could be driven across the border to my mexico ranch and make it appealing

1999 Daihatsu Street Legal in TX?

Can a 1999 Daihatsu Hijet 4WD S210P be street legal in Texas?
Yes, a 1999 Daihatsu Hijet 4WD S210P can be legally titled, registered, and driven on public roads in Texas, according to the Dallas Express.
Key points
  • 25-Year Rule: Vehicles 25 years or older are exempt from federal regulations, allowing the import of Kei trucks like the 1999 Hijet.
  • Texas Law (SB 1816): Texas specifically passed Senate Bill 1816, according to Texas Standard, to legalize these mini vehicles, amending state code to classify them as "miniature vehicles" that can be registered and titled.
  • State Regulations: While federal law allows import, the ability to drive on public roads is determined by individual states. Texas has opted to allow them.
  • Important Note: Although safety inspections are no longer required for most non-commercial vehicles in Texas as of January 1, 2025, emissions inspections are still mandatory for gasoline-powered vehicles 2-24 years old in certain counties. 1999 Daihatsu Hijet 4WD S210P, as a vehicle older than 25 years, would likely be exempt from emissions testing as well, according to a Reddit discussion.
In essence, because the 1999 Daihatsu Hijet 4WD S210P meets the 25-year import rule and Texas has specifically legislated to allow registration and titling of Kei trucks as "miniature vehicles," it can be legally driven on Texas roads.

USA*** provided some great info. Thank you for that.

Yes, it can be made street legal but I did not get it for that. I bought it as an alternative to an overpriced UTV and I have an enclosed cab with ac & heat. I have no desire to drive it on the highway. Although, I do take it out on my FM road to stretch its legs. It handles very well.

I have not previously checked into getting it registered to drive on public roads but I have received the same question from several people so I want to share what I learned today.

I called Brazos County Tax assessors office and they referenced me to their Registration and Title Bulletin # 01-24 Policy and Procedure that was issued April 4, 2024. It is specifically for the Title and Registration Procedures for Mini Vehicles. I told them I do not have the title. They said since the title was never applied for or lost, a bonded title could be obtained for it. They said to come in and get a bonded title packet and it will provide instruction on what to do. I also mentioned that I didn't have the import documents that their bulletin references and they said that wouldn't be an issue since the title would be bonded. They will run the vin and check everything out. I already had the vin # checked and there are no liens or issues.

SB 1816 made it easier to get this done and it meets the 25 year rule.
