you know regarding Cam...

it is a little concerning that he hit the rookie wall mid-season...and never bounced back. He was done.

sometimes rookies get a second wind in late August or September, but Cam was cooked after the first half

He also had his PT cut back significantly. The addition of Sanchez hitting left against RHP really cut Cam's ABs back the last two months of the season.

Cam also had A LOT MORE on his plate that I imagine the team wanted.

I'm not worried about Cam.

and seeing Kurtz's name again...

I trust Espada is working on a plan for Kurtz next year

just embarrassing that the rookie hit 9 HR and posted 18 RBI against the Astros

when his final season numbers were 36 HR and 86 RBI

25% of his homers and 21% of his RBI came in 10 games vs. Joe's bunch

How on earth could san diego be losing money.
Im looking for Ray Finkle.... and a clean pair of shorts. Im just a very big Finkle fan. This is my Graceland, sir.

He had 4 HR and 8 RBIs in one game. Thats going to inflate the numbers quite a bit.

What position is Tatis playing nowadays?

IIRC he was pretty awful as a defender and wasn't really a fit at LF or SS.

Great, another modern Altuve in the field.

Steroid user, bloated contract, immature. If we're going to expend that kind of trade capital I'd rather use it on someone else.

Who gave him a 2nd place vote?

Espada wasn't close to the top 3 managers in the AL this year.

He was until he wasn't. I'd argue he should have been the favorite around the ASB.

THIS

He's entering his age-27 season. He's under contract for 9 more years at ~32 M per. For a team desperate for major talent after the loss of some big names and the aging out of others, he's perfect. He plays a high-level RF (better than Cam) and would look great leading off right in front of Yordan.

He would rank 2nd to only Dubon in Fielding Run Value for the 2025 Astros.

Is that enough to get Tatis? What if you had to throw in Yainer as well?

I'd say you are correct.

Here is how Baseball Trade Values each
  • Smith 22.5
  • Arrighetti 12.4
  • Walker -25.2
  • Diaz 28.6
Total: 38.3

  • Tatis 83.3
In actuality, there is no reason for the Padres to take Walker if the move is to shed money. If you take Walker out & add Yainer to the deal, it gets a lot closer to fair.

This is all hypothetical. He'll probably end up with the Dodgers.

I would assume any trade involving Walker is going to have to include us hanging on to a good part of his salary to make him anything besides an anchor weighing down the trade package value.

You would think so but if it's for someone on a bigger deal then it's still a cost saving move.

If Tatis is making 32 mil per and they ship him off for Walker who's making 20 mil that's still a cost cutting move.

iBrad

If they took Walker in return, they'd still shed quite a bit of committed salary. $292M vs $40M. However, they'll likely get offers that don't include a Walker-type salary in return.

Yeah, but Tatis is arguably playing well enough to justify 32M per year, while 2025 Walker was not worth 20M.

Moving Cam is risky, though. If he becomes the type of hitter some think he could be, that's cheap production, which is what we thrived on with guys like Springer, Correa, and Bregman, allowing money to be spent elsewhere.
Ag_07
How long do you want to ignore this user?

A team bleeding money and blowing up it's roster going into costs saving mode DGAF about production vs salary.

But yes the kicker is I'd imagine they'd get better offers that don't include such a high salary and more prospect pieces for the future.

Moving Cam or Paredes is borderline insanity to me. You specifically went after those guys by trading Tucker a year early and robbed the Cubs blind

Agreed, I don't understand the fascination with an immature steroid user on a bloated contract that Jim wouldn't give out to a free agent. This would be a losing trade for us.
Ag_07

I don't think his contract is bloated. It gets a little bloated toward the back end (36 mil per for the final 6 years) but it seems pretty reasonable for an MVP caliber player.

And yes the steroid use is a red flag but by all accounts he's matured a good bit and made some changes to become a more well rounded hitter.

Not sure I'd pull the trigger but I'd seriously consider making a deal for him.

He seems like the type that might pout after getting traded away from the west coast, another reason i don't want him. He's also had lots of injury issues as a younger player, and that's not going to get better with age.

We also have his former hitting coach now. Not sure if he'd view that as a plus or minus.
