I'm going to have to start traveling to Pittsburgh on business regularly.

Been doing some research but anyone have any reccs for hotels downtown (I've looked at Omni William penn, Fairmont etc) or good bars/restaurants/stuff to do locally

Will def look to catch a ballgame at PNC (even though the pirates lick)

Hoping to take advantage of the spring/summer before things get cold

If you want an interesting style of pizza try Beto's pizza. Super cheap hole in the wall place but they put the cheese on cold at the end.

Never thought I would say this but actually really liked Pittsburgh. Andy Warhol museum was great and not far from there across the river are a huge collection of ethnic Greek and Italian restaurants as well as old grocery stores.

Pittsburgh is a great city. Been several times and loved it every time that I've stayed downtown. The Westin is in a great location being walking distance to lots of stuff. I've also stayed at the Marriott properties across the street from PNC Park.

Be sure to check out Tako. Great food and cool atmosphere. Go eat dinner at Monterrey Bay on Mount Washington. Amazing views of downtown. The Strip district is cool and Bella Notte is a great pizza spot.

got family in Pitt, south of Pitt and north of Pitt so we've been there a time or two. The city has really improved and cleaned up over the last few decades.
The above info is all good. All I would really add is...
1) when you go to Pirates game be sure to sit behind home plate or 3rd base side for great view of the city
2) when you go to Mt. Washington (lots of restaurants and bars up there) take the Incline car
3) the Strip district has TONS of bars and restaurants. It's basically the hip new area attracting a lot of young professionals. Of course theres a Primanti Bros there and it's always good. Do NOT get Primanti's at the airport or stadiums...nowhere near as good.
4) check out the Heinz museum
5) any hole in the wall italian place is likely to be good but you can always use google reviews to be safe

I got to PGH regularly. I don't like downtown. I stay at the Oaklander which is right next to Pitt.

As someone who lived in Pittsburgh for a few years, Primanti Bros was disgusting. I would not recommend it at all.

May try to put a quick overnight trip together to catch a couple of mid-week baseball games in September when the Cubs are back in town.

Looks like the cheaper hotel options would be the Embassy Suites (across the river) or for a little more, the Residence Inn a block or two from the Stadium. Guessing the Residence would be the best bet if the whole purpose is to see baseball?

Any other considerations for a 2 day, 1 night baseball trip? I would have my 11 yo son with me.

#1 son just finished freshman year at Pitt which means we've been there probably 6 times in the last 12 months. Great town. Have stayed at the Oaklander (very pricy) but also a Courtyard near there right across from the Cathedral of Learning (Pitt kids call it Cathy). If you do that you can park under Soldiers & Sailors and save on parking vs. parking at either of those hotels.

Lots of cool neighborhoods and good eats in Pittsburgh. Wouldn't have ever thought we'd like it as much as we do.
