Turns out United has quietly brought back higher fares for single travelers. And it looks like Delta and American are going to do the same.

Do you really believe that the airlines are lowering fares on groups by charging more for solo travelers?

This is mostly just clickbait. If you read the original article on Thrifty Traveler, you'll see that the dude only found this "tax" for a very limited number of airports (seems like tiny regional ones) and only on one way flights. 99% of us will be okay. Using algorithms to price flights have been around forever and is only going to be more pronounced as more data exists. There are plenty of things to complain about with United but this just isn't one of them.
