Are there still headhunters in the business world(was there ever such a thing)? Or someone to pay for help finding a job? Thanks

Yes they exist, they're just agency recruiters. Also, the company pays them their fee, not the candidate. If you ever come across a recruiter asking you for a fee, then run the other way.

What you might be looking for is a career coach, but even then, they cant guarantee to get you a job. You are better off doing it on your own.

Yeah, but then you have to buy yourself lunch once a quarter instead of them buying it for you.

I am in accounting in DFW and head hunters are very prevelant. Most medium to small companies don't have talent acquisition departments and rely on head hunter/recruiting agencies.

Yes they exist. I get monthly emails (at least) from head hunters.

Some are informing me of candidates I could hire. Some are trying to entice me with placements for myself.

Not gonna lie, occasionally the openings are attractive. Especially some of the WFH deals from large metro areas that are out of state.

I work for a Fortune 50 and for my function (accounting/finance), we use them regularly. Our internal HR talent acquisition team is tits-on-a-boar-hog useless. Everyone we hire comes from either the network of people on our team (ie we know them or someone we trust does) or recruiters. 95% of our targets are Big 4 with 2-5 years of experience, and when they are ready to start thinking about leaving public, almost all of them seem to work with recruiters. So we've got a few recruiters that know what we are looking for and are good at feeding us quality options. We pay but it saves a lot of time and we have a good hit rate on them being good hires.

I am not plugged into the Austin or Houston markets, but Unity Search is based in Dallas with presence in both cities. They are more focused on Accounting/finance/tech, but they might still be worth a conversation and if anything might be able to provide feedback.

I have had better interactions with Unity than with other agencies. Danny, I am curious if you have had similar interactions with Unity.
