I'm new so I hope this is the right place to post this.
We are ready to build our new home in rural Washington County. We need feed back/ recommendations on builders that build in this area. We would like a builder who is used to building on rural land verses only in town on subdivision lots. We have talked to Keith Ellis Homes and Schaefer Custom Homes. So any insights or thoughts would be appreciated as well as other builders to consider.

The house will be 3,000 to 3,300 sq ft climate controlled and we would like to be in the $1 - $1.2 M range for home construction not including site prep, road, well, septic, etc

Great quality work and honest pricing. He is going to build my sons home in the future. If you speak with Steve tell him Wayne Cox referred you. You will be pleased with his work.

I'd be happy to help. I've built 3 homes in Fayetteville on 8 Acres and understand the difference in a custom home in Houston and a custom home in the country. There's layouts and designs that are ideal for that area.

I know Steve. He's about as stand up, almost to a fault, of a builder as you'll likely ever meet. Our neighbors used them for their build, and 4.5 years later he's been back out to the house numerous times for a very weird and freak paint issue to help them work with the paint manufacturer to make things right. He's not on the hook for anything but has taken time out of his days to help make the connections and push things along so his clients are taken care of.

Didn't know JNS are still doing residential, thought they had pivoted to more light industrial projects.

No intent to discount the other replies you have received, but to address the builders you've met with - both are very experienced custom home builders with good reputations. I know Keith better than I know Michael and am very familiar with his work. If you are wanting to go "high end" and are not afraid to pay for the attention and quality, Keith should stay on your list. From all I know and have heard through the years (many), Schaefer is worthy of consideration too.
