Course setup will dictate alot. Americans no longer have the bomber advantage they used to but Bethpage is long and tough. If Gotterup continues to play well I like him as a pick. Frankly after the top 6 it's a crap shoot. Morikawa is awful right now and Cantlay has stunk all year. Euros way deeper this go around.

The month off from the end of the Tour Championship to the actual event is a killer too. Europe has the BMW Championship for team bonding and actual competition. PGAT has the Napa event most of these guys skip.

Two more playing with some sauce before your championship. Shame Billy Ho is hurt. Colin is a mess. Griffin, does he move the needle? I'd be Burns (putter) and Novak (he's a mauler).

But, US is in trouble.

Spaun had said after the US Open Keegan wasn't going to pick rookies. If thats true it certainly cuts a lot of guys out. Griffin and Novak won the team event in New Orleans. I don't think that shoukd be overlooked just because they'd be rooks.

I'd also consider Theegala or Wyndham if Keegan decides not to play. Wyndham is a wild card. If he keeps it together he's really good but prone to losing it. I'd pick Sahith over Clark if Sahith is healthy.

Morikawa is a hot mess right now. I'd leave him off.

If you're looking for a putter then its Burns

He can definitely lose it but I was thinking home crowd, etc. But yes that is a huge strike against him.

Novak would be an intriguing choice.

The course is a mental grind, ala Oakmont. His best win was on an easier course that allowed him to get away with a 50 yard slice when the pressure was on. And he's not been good this year. 1 Top 10 in 19 starts. For those 6 picks, every one of them needs to be a guy that bagged a good season including a solid summer. No longing for glory of old. I want guys confident in their game, not looking for it.

Yeah im out on Clark too. Dude was middle of the fairway in Italy day 1 and blew his shot way right on 18 costing the US a point. No thanks

I'd be game for Keegan playing. I think a couple of their main problems have been lack of balls and captains over-thinking things. Keegan playing could take care of both. And most importantly, he's playing well. If he finishes the season playing well, go for it.

The guy had one great year and carries himself as if he's hot sht. He's a mental midget and needs to stay far away from the Ryder/Presidents Cup.

And in majors, he's been flat out bad except for the flash-in-the-pan win. Misses the cut half the time in 16 starts. His best finish in the other 15 is a T33. Out.

Only consider Clark if you shave the rough and just say swing as hard as you want we don't care where the ball goes. Even then hed be down the list. Everyone hits it far now.

Has gotterup done anything in the US though? I don't think he even has a top 10. Maybe links golf just really suits him.

I agree the pick should be for someone hot, regardless of where they are in points. But I'd really hesitate to pick gotterup when his only good results are over the pond. But if he starts playing well in the US and does well in the playoffs then I'd definitely take him.

He won at Bethpage in 2009. Tiger won the US Open there in 2002. Should he be added to the team too?
