New to golf board.

Looking for opinions/advice on home simulators. I've been talking to Assembled Golf and they are proposing the following equipment:

- Uneekor EYE XO2
- BenQ LK936ST Projector 4k

Any advice or is there an Aggie in the Houston area that I should be working with?

the Uneekor system is a big upgrade over skytrak. I don't have anything else to add except I've been way happier with mine after that change

That's good to know, thank you.

It all depends on space available. I transformed my extra garage into a simulator last year and did everything but the mini split installation myself

I did the Carl's place built in enclosure with wall panels.

If you have any questions let me know.

The 20k+ price tag has me looking at a more budget friendly option

I did a DIY in my garage and followed the "builds by maz" on YouTube. There are many build your own golf simulator videos out there and golf simulator build groups on facebook.

I am interested on that mini-split for your garage and if it cools the area in the summer months. My garage is not sheet rocked.

It should. I just added a free window unit someone was going to throw out to our garage that isn't insulated and it keeps it about 18 deg cooler in August. Doesn't sound like much, but low to mid 80s is pretty nice when it is 100+ degrees outside. Much lower humidity as well. Added a coupler of fans around the room for airflow and it's pretty nice. Not mini split / regular AC nice, but it just cost me some time to install.

We just have to remember to turn it on 30 minutes to an hour before my daughter practices and it is a big change. So a mini split should be just fine.

Upgraded mine last fall and went with the Foresight Falcon. Very happy with all of it. I used a guy to build it out for me that charged $1,500 to do all the build out. He sent me the links for everything with options for low, mid and high end. I bought it and got it all to my garage and he came and did assembly and was done in two days. Happy to share his info if you're interested. I'm in Houston but I'm pretty sure he will go anywhere.

At that pricing this sounds like a long term, fixed in place kind of simulator. If so, you're on the right track as long as you are okay with budget.

You can go budget like we did that's portable or ridiculous over the top and everything in between. Launch monitor is key. Study the Youtube videos / reviews of the various tiers and their features. The rest can fall into place after that based on budget. Going from budget that can run on your phone / tablet to gaming computer is kind of the first big break in tiers.

I went with a minisplit for ours in a 1200 sqft shop. I did one of the MrCool type DIY minispilts and it was easy. No need for an HVAC tech install.

Thanks for the responses AgL06/Teslag. I'll probably do something to cool that half of the garage before June rolls around. Like you said, all I need to do is cool that small area of the simulator. area....80 degrees and lowering the humidity would help a ton. Definitely will check out this MrCool.

Curios if anyone has looked into cutting out part of the garage ceiling for a simulator? Realizing I'll need to hire a structural engineer to accomplish, just wondering if it's even feasible.

if not, I'm just going to have to make something work in my backyard. I have plenty of room on concrete but it will need to be somewhat portable/mobile.

I added a mini split for ~$900. I also insulated my garage with 1.5" foam boatd and added some nee weather stripping. Luckily the garage faces west so not a ton of direct sun in the summer.

I usually turn it on 10 minutes before I go in and it feels great. Today, my first garage was 46* and after 10 minutes my sim room was 68*.

Played 18 already today.

Thanks TXAGGIES! Definitely will do a deep dive into some of the options mentioned. Thanks.

How is the sound insulation with those wall panels?

I converted an old bedroom into a bay but I haven't done anything for sound yet and it's pretty loud.

I used Carl's Place as well and it turned out pretty nice. I also turfed the entire bedroom and took out a closet for space.

I used the Foresight GC3 for a launch monitor as it's portable and I've taken it to the range a few times and it's worked great.

I might not be a good test case. I have unfished attic above my garage and a utility room that shares a wall, the other 2 walls are exterior walls with brick. My daughters room is the closest thing I have to a room near it and she cannot hear anything. I have floor to ceiling pads from the screen to 6 feet away.

Never once has anyone come into the garage and said be quiet... yet.

Oh wow that's great!

I'll look into the Carl's Place wall pads as I was impressed with the screen and how easy it was to set up.

I am probably medium skill with tools etc. For me it was easy hanging the built in screen. The panels are kind of s pain. My issue was I was putting them into drywall so had anchors for everyone. (Especially when doing the ceiling) The only new tool I bought was a laser level to ensure the padding looked good.

I did it all myself and was done in maybe 3-5 days, a couple hours each day.

I don't know much about launch monitors or home simulators, but I was watching this vid from the PGA Show and they previewed a couple of them. One of them is made by Blue Tees, and another can easily fit in a golf bag.

For home simulators they featured the Rapsodo CLMPRO ceiling mount version. It's supposed to have six cameras. But they didn't have a release date.

Protee VX is also a great ceiling monitor. What software are you going to use? GSPRO has tons of courses and new ones dropping all the time. Graphics are great.
