I have a 7 year old LG fridge that will not maintain temps in fridge or in the freezer section. Compressor is running sporadically.

Would you try and get a repairman out or is this thing likely toast?

From what this board says, repair probably isn't even an option.

LG had a class action lawsuit because of their compressors. But not sure this is a compressor issue if it's running sporadically?

If it is this compressor, may be worth a call to LG because believe the compressor is a 10 year warranty. That said, the repair will still likely cost $1k due to BS like having to upgrade the motherboard for the new compressor, labor, etc.

We used to have a local HONEST repairman that would tell us the answer, then IF we pressed him, could get insider prices on NEW as good as retail stores if not better BUT not really his fav thing to do. Do you have one of these guys or even mom/pop stores?

I appreciate the replies. We just bit the bullet and bought a new one today. I paid almost $3k for this fridge 7 years ago and it's on sale now at Lowe's for $1800. These things never happen at convenient times and we decided not to wait a few days for a maybe on the repair.

I have an LG that started warming in both the fridge and freezer and building up ice in the bottom of the freezer. Turns out the drain line for the heater was clogged, would back up, and over flow. On mine it had a rubber cover at the end (dumb) to brace it to the drain pan. A little bit of dust and dog hair, and that puppy was CLOGGED. Took the rubber cover off, defrosted, flushed it out, and haven't had an issue since.

LG's are trash. We had a Kenmore Elite refrigerator that was made by LG.

I had two circuit boards fail, compressor fail, and compressor valve fail, all within 3 years. The last attempted repair was the compressor valve replacement ($1400). The repairman replaced it twice and it still wouldn't cool. We dumped it and bought a Whirlpool, which has had no issues in the last 2 years.

Don't try to repair the LG, cut your losses and move on.

I know you've already bought, but if you still have the old one or for anyone else, LG has $400 flat repair fee that will cover any of the cooling or electronic components. We are two just out of warranty and just went through this rather than buying new. It's a shame for such an expensive product but hopefully this repair lasts.
