Hope to get some help here. We had a new 4 ton Lennox R454b unit put in about 2 weeks ago. Fast forward to today, I was out side and looking at the unit and noticed this white substance on the valves at the condensing unit. It almost looks like corrosion you see on a battery terminal is the closest description?

Anyone have any ideas as to what it may be?

Pretty sure the valve is leaking

Take that cap off spray liquid soap in there and see if it start bubbling

If it does just put cap back on and call ac company

They need to add freon maybe

Edit. Do you not have the tech cell to send him a pic

Any chance that's related to the flux used for solder somewhere? I would think a leak would just be a little
Oily spot, no?

If it's two weeks old have them come back. Don't risk it.

I thought about that also but the joint is normally about 6-8 inches away from the valve but I really dont know it was just a guess

I thought that too, but looking just to the joint to the right it looks like they brazed (no flux) rather than Stay Brite 8 soldered.

Since it's a new install, have the installer figure it out. Sending pics in advance is a good idea, provided the company takes customer service seriously. Sadly, some don't and will have to be bugged half to death to get them to come out.

EDIT: Any chance that's the remnants of Wet Rag heat stop putty used to keep from damaging the valve?
