I will never fully understand why they weren't bigger.

I read a biography from them somewhere that said their first manager and label was some rich kid that was using dads money to start a label and didn't know what he was doing

As a result it was bad management that prevented them from bigger exposure

Maybe it was after the first two albums on Mercury they got bad management

But this article does state they made bad decisions
