I saw some pictures yesterday of the USS Nimitz leaving Puget Sound on its way to Newport News for final decommissioning. Can it go through the Panama Canal or does it have to go around South America? Must be a strange feeling on board since all of the aviation personnel are gone.

Nimitz has one more mission

According to this, she can't go through the Canal. Also, she is going to take part in a training exercise prior to arriving in Newport News.
