I didn't really care for her but it's sad that she died at such a young age.

Sad to hear. None of the articles mention cause which often points to self inflicted. Hope that's not the case here

That was my thought too. Might have just been something natural like heart attack/stroke, but usually when they don't mention cause of death, its suicide.

There are a lot of Food Network personalities who annoy me (cough cough Sunny Anderson), but I always liked Anne. Like Michael Symon, she was a great teacher who was good at imparting chef skills to home cooks -- like how to hold a knife properly.

We watch A LOT of Food Network, and Anne will be missed.

Anytime I see someone holding a knife with their finger extended down the back of it I think of her....

I'm an old so watch a ton of FN. Her dishes are always on point. And she beat Flay over and over again. RIP Burrell. The food in heaven just turned up a notch

I was watching some of the BBQ Brawl seasons which she was on a few seasons with Bobby Flay filmed at Star Hill Ranch outside Austin,TX. When saw the news she passed seemed very unexpected.

Because she just baked

But yeah she was one of the better FN personalities. I know they're all a pretty tight knit group so T&P to not only her real family but also her FN family as well.

It was awesome to get to watch her rise up all the way from being a sous chef for Mario Batali to having her own shows. 55 is still way too young.

I hear she was a royal PITA in real life. Multiple stories in the past about it. But yeah....still shocking.

Loved watching Food Network years ago and everything became a competition, with children or worst cook etc. miss informational shows with Alto Brown or people that actually just cook.

Jet Tila had an interesting show. He cooked but taught about the spices and grains and herbs and veggies as he cooked.

Now they have a cooking show with that shiplap chick. She made grits.

I'm with you on the lack of "chefs actually cooking" shows now.

And the competition shows that do have some actual chefs doing actual cooking are too over the top. Chopped would be much better if I didn't have to watch people try and make a dish with brussel sprouts and gummi bears.

T&P to Anne's family.

I like "Tournament of Champions" hosted by Guy Fieri. Where they have all the chefs compete in an elimination format until there are only 2 left.

But I'm just ready for someone really out of left field to win it all. No more Maneet Chauhan, thank goodness. I want someone like Joe Sasto to take the whole thing.

I honestly had never heard of her until someone mentioned her death.

Having watched a bazillion episodes of Chopped, that ones easy. You melt the gummi bears down to make a glaze and use that on the brussel sprouts.

T&P for Anne & her family.

And +1 on actual cooking shows like Good Eats.

This. I remember when the Food Network started moving toward competition shows and they created The Cooking Network to show actual cooking shows. That went the way of cupcake wars too and now there is almost nothing dedicated to cooking and instruction.

I liked her show back in the day. In the rotation with Jamie at Home, Molto Mario, Good Eats, Tyler's Ultimate and the lesser known chefs focusing on specific international cuisine like Luke's Vietnam and Indian Food Made Easy.

I was living in NOLA when foodtv took off with Emeril Live. I would absolutely watch those again if re-aired.

My favorite show on Food Network is "Beat Bobby Flay." I love it when these foreign chefs come with their weird dishes and talk about how they learned it from their grandmother and the celebrity judges ooh and ahhh over them and say "Bobby's going down" about a hundred times.

And then Bobby just mops the floor with them even though he's never made ramshicalique before.

I'll watch "BBF" any time. Except when Sunny Anderson is on.

Also, chefs from around the world all say the same thing on "Beat Bobby Flay:"

"In my culture, we use a lot of spices in our cooking," like they have some ancient secrets that will dazzle the judges.

And then they pull out salt, pepper, garlic, thyme, paprika, cayenne, ginger, etc.

It's not 1800 any more -- you can get spices from around the world at any basic grocery store.

I've been pulling for Jet Tila to win the last 3-4 years, but he keeps letting me down. First season I was pulling for Darnell, but then well....we know how it's going with him. Wouldn't be super disappointed if Brit Rescigno won.

****we haven't finished watching current season, so please no spoilers on who wins it. I just know it is NOT Jet since Joe just took him down****

It's the truth.

When I read the news, I looked her up, and I said, "It looks like Susan Powter decided to become a cook." I've never watched any of her shows.

Im glad im not the only one…

Cooking competitions on tv take away the exact reason or source of my passion for cooking. I find peace and happiness being in the kitchen and seeing the enjoyment others receive through my efforts.

Competition introduces stress and anxiety when none is needed. Sorry, i may have just went off the rails a bit.

Happy cooking my friends… i will have Anne in my thoughts while in the kitchen over the weekend.

They are saying possible drug overdose now.

From the article:

"The document said Ms. Burrell, who was 55, had been "discovered in the shower unconscious and unresponsive surrounded by approximately (100) assorted pills." Emergency medical workers who responded to a 911 call pronounced her dead at the scene."

Did she have a history of substance abuse? What is more likely is she was on medication for a heart issue and was having chest pain so she went to get her medication then had a heart attack while doing so.

I love the Food Network and all the competition shows. And actually learn a few things watching them.

I do wish I'd found it sooner to see the shows mentioned like Alton Brown's. I love that guy.

The Kitchen is also a fave.

Jeff and Sunny I like though.
