Interesting how this game that was decided by less than a second (shouldn't have in reality if the refs didn't mess it up) could be one of the reasons Auburn is left out.

Lunardi said no team has made the field with 16 losses. Also said with their SOS, they likely would be in if they had just one more win.

Obviously, they had other opportunities to get another win. Also shows why as a coach and a team, you need to fight for every little thing during the season. Similar to ou and tu who hover around the 11 seed. So many close wins and losses where a few plays could change your fate.

Had we beaten Missouri and Tennessee we are probably a 7 seed. Throw in 2 of Alabama, SMU, UCF and we are a 4. Very small margins in this sport.

A&M played there way in by getting a huge win against UK &LSU
Auburn needed to beat OU and ole Miss at the end of February lost both and are on the wrong side of the cut line

I'm just happy SMU didn't cost us the Tourney!

I've said it before, but if you can't go .500 in your conference, you shouldn't get into the tournament. The only exception would be conference tournament winners.

If I was an OU fan, I'd be lamenting the number of blown leads they had.

It doesnt work when some conferences have 16-20 teams of professionals all with $10 million payrolls and actually have more than half of their teams be really good.

.500 record also arbitrarily makes a decision to pick a worse team in some cases where these big conferences dont have balanced schedules or have a team with big wins early in the season.

Theres plenty of data to pick the best teams with the best wins.

There's not much of a comparison between the two cases imo. Our case is much stronger.

This is pretty much anyone on the bubble down to 8/9 seeds.

Auburn is probably the team that got the most screwed by the Bediako situation. He actually played well again them.

I have not analyzed it in any way, but the unbalanced schedule could also be something that is easy to overlook. Our 5 victories against OU, Texas, and LSU were hard fought, and those teams were competitive in many other games, but we could've had a much harder trio of teams that we played twice. Like football, we beat the people in front of us each game.

Tennessee - Make a couple free throws or have some terrible late game calls not be wrong, and that's a win.
SMU - We literally gave them game away. It was won. All we had to do was run clock and makes MOST of our free throws.
Alabama - Inelgible player not playing means we likely win. Terrible refereeing being even semi-terrible means we win.
Missouri - 1 or 2 plays different and we win.
Auburn - Referees screw up in Auburns favor and then screw up but get it right in ours. Was always a win.

I think that's the point.

It's akin to the "if just this one play went this way" exercise in football.

Sure it helps your resume, but if every team gets to do the same thing with their resume, then suddenly it's not as big a boost for you.

We are what our record is. 7-5 in games decided by 2 possessions or less means we weren't "unlucky".

given 15-3 got us a 7seed, we may not endup in much worse position as is
