Should be a doable road trip. Who will be there?

fingers crossed.

What's the best way to buy tickets? Surely not through the secondary market like SeatGeek or TicketMaster...

In. Already had planned on OKC as I have family there and we enjoyed the Wichita regional last year.
Hoping we repeat the magic that happened last NCAA in OKC

I wouldn't buy expensive tickets to the Thursday 1st session, they will be cheap and available the day of the games. A&M plays in the night session but there isn't a large fan base for any of those teams ( St Marys, Idaho, Cougar High ) so I'd think ticket prices should be reasonable.

I went last time in OKC and got to see two Aggie wins, including the greatest comeback IN NCAA HISTORY, plus a halfcourt buzzer beater to take down the horns. I won't miss this one.

I'll be there! I was there in '16 too. Might even try to pre-game at the same bar.

Where are the best places to stay? I think I stayed around bricktown last time. Hotel options already seemed slim last night. I don't remember that being much of a problem last time because I assume I booked Sunday or Monday then as well and got a bricktown hotel.

If nothing is available in bricktown area, what's the next best option? Downtown? Midtown?

As what about tickets? Are they completely sold out so we have to buy second hand? I thought I bought them first hand last time. But maybe I'm misremembering.

Sorry for all the questions.

We're staying on the Northwest side of town just because hotels are cheaper.

This being a drivable destination just makes things so much easier.

You think so? You left out Nebraska which would likely travel well to possibly witness history with the 1st tourney win in program history.

I bought both 1st & 2nd session tickets before I knew which session we were playing in and I'm currently trying to decide if I would rather sell the session 1 tickets and pocket a small premium to apply towards travel expenses

-OR-

to make both sessions and take in the full day Big Dance experience. Bucket list event would be catching the Ags in an E8/F4 game, but at my age I'm not sure that's in the cards.

Nice problem to have, but what to do...

That first session could be a really fun one. I was actually bouncing that idea around myself because you're either going to get to see Nebraska win their first ever NCAA Tournament game, which would be a fun scene if you can get near the Nebraska fans, or you're going to see one of the biggest upsets of the tournament.

It's fun being there for the other games and watching without any real skin in the game, especially if you win first game and get a buffer day in between to watch hoops with other fans.

Didn't go the way we wanted it to, but Riverwalk before Memphis game with Tennessee/OhioState/Memphis fans all there was a blast.

Decent hotels all around if you're worried about availability. If you plan to be in town a few days, and want to stay somewhere with stuff to do, I would say it depends on whether you have a car.

If you don't have a car and want things to dinner where you're staying, downtown will likely be your best bet. Lots to do with a group of friends, family, etc.

If you do have a car and want things to do near your hotel, midtown is a really fun place. Great food options, fun bars like Fassler and McNellies, etc.

If you don't really care to do much near your hotel, there are places all over the place. I would recommend looking northwest of bricktown in general, but it can be spotty so take a look at the area and your comfort level with it before booking.

Thanks, this is helpful. I'll probably be driving up, but would prefer to have some bars/restaurants within walking distance so that we don't have to worry about driving much while we are there, other than hopefully to a golf course on Friday. But will have the capability to drive if needed.

I'll take a look at downtown and Midtown.

Question: is downtown walkable to Bricktown? Are those essentially the same area, with Bricktown just being a specific area near downtown? I see them listed separately on the map, but they appear pretty close.

I've only been a few x but from what I recall Bricktown is right in amongst the downtown area.

From what I remember last tourney, downtown was a ghost town.

Oklahoma City Aggie here! Downtown/Bricktown/Midtown has become more lively than the last tournament in 2016 thanks to the Thunder's success.
Downtown hotels: very walkable, some nightlife and restaurants but mostly in hotel lobbies. The Omni will be hopping but I glanced at their website this morning and they looked full on Thursday night. I bet the teams are staying there as well. They have a great lobby bar as does The Colcord.
Bricktown hotels: lots of people will be walking that way before and after the games for lodging, parking and eating. It's not as exciting as most big towns but if you want walkable and restaurants that would be a good bet.
Midtown hotels: not as many. I love The Ambassador. Huge plus in the dining and nightlife though. Would be a far walk to the stadium. There is a streetcar and I think it's free right now but I don't know where the stops are.
If everything in those three areas are booked then I would look more north near Penn Square Mall and Nichols Hills and then finally up on the turnpike near Quail Springs Mall. Plenty of parking downtown, both surface lots and garages. We usually pay 10 dollars for our lot for Thunder games.
I would not look at the hotels south of I-40 (unless you are looking closer to Moore/Norman) or east of 235.
Lot of great food in midtown, plaza district, 23rd street, and paseo.
Oklahoma restaurants that I love: Harvey bakery, Hideaway Pizza, Louie's, The Garage, Braums, Tuckers, Kitchen 324, Sun Cattle, Hall's Pizza, Empire Slice House, Barrios, Boomtown Creamery, Frida, Cheever's, The Mule, Neighborhood Jam, Cafe Kacao.
Welcome to the Big League City! I too am waiting for the right time to pounce on some tickets on seatgeek.

You can think of Bricktown as a part of downtown along with other areas. If you find a spot to park or are staying downtown, you can use the streetcar to navigate to a lot of downtown. Not a lot of people use it but I find it pretty valuable. And it will probably be much cheaper than most parking options.

Good stuff! Any recs on a great spot on Friday to post up and watch other games?

The Garage, Louie's, Bricktown Brewery and Pub W have a few locations across the metro. Fassler Hall, The Truck Yard, McNellie's if you are down near the arena. Republic if you are in the Nichols Hills area. Eddie's if you are staying on the far north side of OKC proper. I really like The Garage for watching sports. The midtown location will probably be the most hopping.
