The 2011 internal report should be released

Many of you recall that after the 2011 season, Bill Byrne ordered a sweeping internal evaluation of the baseball program. Childress had taken us to the CWS, but we went 0-2.

The goal was to evaluate a history of missed opportunities and failures on the biggest stages. It was conducted by outside consultants and inside employees.

I've asked about the report being released over the years. But just stonewalling. Even from long time posters here who are aware of the contents and conclusions.

Given continued and recent failures, is it time we demand that the report finally be released?

You're worried about a report authored 14 years ago? The biggest problem in 2011 was the Olsen needed renovation. The more things change...

It would be interesting to see if that report actually outlined what was going on back then. There was a lot behind the scenes that most people don't know about. And it wasn't good.

I think you just described every A&M sport for all of eternity. And probably every sport at every other school as well. College athletics has long been a shady, lack of integrity business. There's some really nasty crap that has transacted under the guise of "student athletics".

Wouldn't this be covered by a FOIA request? That's assuming anyone could find this after all this time.

I've often thought the structure of NCAA football could be reimagined to better reflect the size and diversity of the sport. With over 130 programs at the FBS level, it seems increasingly limiting to crown just one national champion from a 12-team playoff. Instead, imagine a system with 4 or 5 major leagues, each composed of 25 to 30 teams, further divided into regional divisions. Each division would crown its own champion annually, giving more programs a legitimate path to meaningful success.

Even more compelling would be the introduction of promotion and relegation allowing teams to move between tiers based on performance. It would add competitive intensity at every level, reduce meaningless late-season matchups, and give smaller programs a chance to rise through merit. College football is one of the most passionate, tradition-rich sports in the country it deserves a structure that reflects its depth and dynamism.

We kinda have had that with the Power 5, Mid majors, FCS, D2, D3, etc.

The problem is that the leadership and egos of the alum at the schools in the lower divisions want the money and/or prestige that the division above them gets and they work to move up to get that payout.....and then complain its not fair that they cant compete for a national championship.

There is no reason that Sam Houston State should be competing for the same trophy as the top teams from the SEC. They simply don't have the same resources - it is not a level playing field and its a system set up for them to fail. But they wanted to move up anyway.

I love the idea of the relegation but I don't think itll realistically get anywhere because of the financial rammifications.

I'm confused. We did a sweeping review after his trip to the CWS to talk about missed opportunities?

In his first 6 years we had:
2 regular season B12 champions
3 B12 tournament champions
2 regionals (ok)
2 super regional finishes
1 CWS appearance

And then we do a "sweeping review" after his best finish (B12 season champ, tournament champ, CWS appearance).

Seems about right.

We are not serious about winning. That's why jt hasn't been released. It's easier to hide the man (men) behind the curtain that hold us back. This applies pretty much to all of the men's sports.

The BOR has done an outstanding job of turning a great university into a massive mediocre performing diploma mill, directing permanent construction contracts to their friends and family, hiring enough stale toast to make a loaf of bread to serve in succession as university presidents, and make the athletic department THE premier institution in college sports for big three coaches looking to secure the financial futures for all of their future generations.

I wouldn't doubt that the BOR has too much say in the coaches we hire. Someone DID do a good when Jamie Morrison and Trish Ford were hired, however.

The Board of Regents are accountable to the elected governor. That's better than anyone else associated with the school since they turn over more often…

Its under the Texas Public Information Act. I'm unaware of the report OP is speaking of, but if it covers Childress, and is being withheld, it is likely due to being classified (rightly or wrongly) as falling under an exception dealing with employee evaluation (I don't know the exact section off the top of my head; Twk may know).

If you do submit a request and they withhold it citing an exception, they must notify the Texas AG's office and document, along with an affidavit (in most cases) the reason.

We tend to alienate coaches that are actually succeeding. I could make a list but just the fan response to Schloss is an excellent example even before he resigned.

If you get a good coach go all in to keep him.

Schloss clearly hated it here from day one. Remember him commenting that not having our dance team at football games was "stupid?" When have you ever heard a college coach of any sport making comments about another sport? You can't have the baseball coach running the AD, no matter how good he is.

There was no way he was ever going to be happy in Aggieland, and then his boy left TCU for Austin.

And our fans were not going to accept his leadership and made it clear here. Sometimes winning an NC requires fans to flex.
