I think the most interesting aspect to follow this offseason will be how the infield shapes up.

Has a Brauny given any thoughts on how he thinks things come together recently?

There were talks of Hacopian playing some 1st at the Cape. I'd still bet he plays short, but there's no clear favorite at 1st. Gavin probably stays at 3rd, but I remember it being floated that he goes to 1st as well. I think Nico starts somewhere in the infield, so you have three of the pieces, but no clarity on who is where and the fourth spot is wide open imo. Is it Chesnut, one of the fish, the kid from Baylor?

I think Gravin stays at third. I'm not sure about the rest yet.

Haven't seen anything from Brauny lately. I'd imagine we'll start getting an idea with fall ball going on, scrimmages coming up. Would be a good topic for the B team.

IF- Hacopain, Gavin...then take your pick between chestnut, royo, fish, Blake
OF- Sorrell, Keil, Duer, Jordan

More worried about starting pitching.

I keep forgetting that Royo is back for some reason.

Looks like Jordan has some experience as first. He's good at the plate, but idk how he is defensively. Baylor chose to DH him a fair amount last year despite not having a strong hitter at first, so it makes me wonder if he's a good option there. He should be a great fit at DH if not.

Looking forward to hearing back on how the scrimmages go. I wish I could make it back to town for one of them.

As fun as it is to wonder, I've found the season rolling itself out is more informative.

You're not wrong, but I enjoy talking Aggie Baseball, even in the offseason, so here we are.

I fully understand. My only observation is expectations grow to fulfill idle time…

Gavin and Hacopain on the left side. The right side? No idea.

Royo at 2B. Need to find a first baseman.

Grahovac and Hacopian are all but written in permanent ink for infield positions. I'd bet they both man the left side of the infield to start the year at the very least.

As for 1st and 2nd, there definitely appears to be an open competition. My guess is Wesley Jordan and Royo begin the year as starters with a short leash and talented freshman pushing hard behind them.

Brauny just posted the update.

Overall encouraging on the freshman. Grahovac working at 1st some. I hope he can be the guy over at 1st. Probably need at least 1 plus defender on the left side. I wonder if Kellner is in line for 3rd base or short. Kind of sounds like it.

I like Gavin having the flexibility to end up at 1st. It sounds like Kellner has a pretty good glove and can push for 3rd with Gavin shifting to the other side of the diamond if nobody else steps up at 1st.

I still think Hacopian is our day 1 shortstop. Unless he is making error after error, I'd bet he gets every chance possible to be that guy.

Seems to me that the most talented version of this infield has Gavin at first and a freshman at 3rd (Nico or Kellner). Maybe that's just bias on my end because I trust Gavin to thrive wherever he's put.

Yeah. He's seems pretty high on the freshman. Hopefully this class is similar to the Grahovac/Sorrell class. Would be nice to get a couple of starters / big contributors out of the freshman class. That means they beat out some solid players.

We're not going to be as strong in the starting rotation as last year...so we need to be a lot stronger on defense. I think the Offense has more potential than the results of last year. Just too many injuries to really ever get going last year. I feel like we could have a much stronger defense with G at 1st and which would put a little more quickness on the left side.

If Royo can hit well enough I'd like to see him as SS. He's a good defender. Hacopian by the stats is not. Whoever has the better arm between Hacopian and Grahovac is who I'd put on 1B barring a huge difference in defense otherwise.

Defensively, he's by far the best option. By my quick math, he had one of, if not the highest strike out rate on the team. If he can cut down on the K's and boost his average by .020, he has to be starting.
