I would like to know the admission process as it pertains to athletes vs other students. Some high school athletes commit in December and enroll for the spring semester; and those coming coming from the portal can do the same. Many of not most regular students apply many months prior to school starting; and more are denied than are accepted.

This is something that crossed my mind; just wondering about the admissions processes.

Athletes get a big advantage in college admissions compared to regular students.

Here's what you need to know:

Athletes:

Coaches recruit them early, often in high school or through the transfer portal. They check if the athlete's grades and test scores meet the school's minimum requirements.

Coaches push for their recruits, so athletes get accepted more easily, even with lower grades. Some commit in December and start school in spring for sports like football. Schools save spots for athletes, so their acceptance rate is much higher.

Regular Students:
They apply months earlier, usually by November or January, with grades, essays, and test scores. They compete for fewer spots, and the process is much stricter. Most get rejected because acceptance rates are low (like 3-5% at top schools).

(They start in fall, not spring)

Main Differences:
  • Athletes have coaches helping them and lower academic requirements.
  • They can apply later and start earlier.
  • Regular students face tougher competition with no special help.
