Monday morning recruiting notes
I've got a few quick hitters on the recruiting front as Texas A&M continues to create as much buzz as any program across the country. Let's get into what I'm able to say publicly for now as we continue to monitor the temperature of a few kids in the 2026 class as well as keep tabs on momentum in 2027. Also, don't forget there's a shrunken transfer portal window looming which should be even more of a circus than normal given the kickstart to the coaching carousel. - Let me begin with this: There aren't a lot of high school prospects currently committed to LSU that Texas A&M would have. I feel pretty certain of that. The Aggies really like what they're currently holding so it's going to take some special talents/traits to get them to budge. That said, there is one player that fits that mold...see below.- We'll start with the guy everyone is asking about in Baton Rouge (LA) University Lab DL Lamar Brown. By now, you'll have seen the photos of him in the Texas A&M section inside Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. If you haven't, you'd be in the minority because those photos have definitely made the rounds and been in front of some high level eyeballs on the Aggie side. I said before the game that the conversation would get a lot more real if A&M went into Death Valley and won. Well, they did and essentially fired the LSU program into the sun in the process. From what I've been able to gather, the Aggies are aligning themselves to capitalize on Saturday night. What does that mean? Well, it's not like they're going to all the sudden turn the faucet on in terms of communication, effort, and messaging. That hasn't really subsided. However, Saturday night provided a ton of tangible evidence to their recruiting pitch for Brown - from the development/production of the Aggie defensive front to the culture in place in College Station and everything in between. It was on full display for the #1 player in the country. Now, will it be enough to get him to move? As of right now, a couple of plugged in folks were skeptical of that. The inherent gravitational pull that LSU has for kids in that state has only strengthened since Brown's commitment to the Tigers. He'd been publicly pumping the Purple & Gold for a while which, to me, only amplifies the pressure in that state to stick with his pledge. Just like you'd imagine, there's also a substantial NIL component to all this given his status as a recruit.I fully anticipate him getting an invitation from Texas A&M to attend the South Carolina game. Whether he accepts that request is yet to be determined, and a cloak may be kept on it for a while if he does decide to visit. If you made me pick a side here on October 27th, I'd put at 65/35 that he stays with LSU. Last Friday though, I would have said it was something like 90/10. In other words, this thing is doable, and the Aggies currently possess the necessary elements to get it done. - Speaking of the South Carolina game, we feel good about at least one official visitor in the 2026 class coming in that weekend. Keep an eye on that. - I posted on Saturday night that the phones were already ringing. I got two messages from sources across the state of Texas about what A&M was going to do in the transfer portal because they had players interested in checking out College Station this winter. So, if I'm getting contacted about it, it's a safe bet that the A&M staff is hearing it, as well. What's making A&M an intriguing destination? Well, first, they're winning...duh. More than though has been the player development. The Aggies are taking kids from the portal (and high school for that matter) and making them better across the board at an impressive clip. I'll have more on that in my recruiting longform article tomorrow, but it's a pivotal edge they have going for them. I tend to believe that it insulates you from the mercenary type format that can occur in the transfer portal. The guys are coming to Aggieland to develop - not get paid. - I got a very encouraging report from a long time trainer in greater Houston on Friday night in regards to A&M's chances with 2027 Richmond Randle RB Landen Williams-Callis. I asked about Oregon's standing, and my source responded with trepidation about the Ducks' ability to get the kid to that region of the country given his lowkey personality. I was also told that Texas has faded due to their current struggles running the football along with a seemingly deteriorating relationship with the coaching staff. I asked if that could be undone and was told, "Maybe, but they're going to have to get on the ball." Texas A&M's offense is appealing. They are creative with their schemes and a lot of guys touch the ball. Both are making good on promises in their recruiting pitch.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
