Tank Jones chose Oregon, what is next for Texas A&M?
-First, keep Tank Jones on the radar - I know it rings pretty empty right now just minutes after his decision, but I do see Tank as a guy who could re-emerge as a legitimate target. The family has deep knowledge of the Texas A&M program, and they see a lot to like in the town, the staff, and the plan on and off the field. It is also a quick trip for a potential game day visit and a trip he has made before, so the possibility is there for fall visits. The fact he has been a high priority target for the staff with a lot of quality type invested over the years makes me think the Aggies will continue to pursue. Considering the above it is not hard to imagine both parties keep an eye on each other over the next few months of the process. -Second, I don't think they necessarily look to fill the spot with an edge or DL - Tank is a unique talent, so it is not like there is another Tank Jones the Aggies have in the queue. It also helps Texas A&M already has some pretty special talents at Edge/DEin the 2026 class. I see this as more of a spot that goes to a best available type. Maybe that is a guy who is committed elsewhere right now, or you hold it and use it on a top portal target. -Third, I still look for the Aggies to continue to evaluate OL and DL talent in the 2026 class - We have mentioned a few times in recent weeks to keep an eye out for a few new names to emerge in the first month or so of the season. It doesn't always happen but it is not an uncommon occurrence either. Last year Nelson McGuire was one of those guys, a couple of years ago so was Rylan Kennedy. It is something to watch.

Tank Jones timeline + latest
A source in the region tells me Mobile (AL) St Paul EDGE Tank Jones is trending toward a high-profile announcement midday tomorrow. That vibes with the what we'd been hearing/reporting about this recruitment coming to a crescendo sooner rather than later. The new intel nationally though is that Oregon has re-entered the fray in a major way. The Ducks have come in over-the-top with their latest push based on intel I've been able to gather in the last hour - so much so that I suspect predictions in favor of Dan Lanning and company should the latest trends hold. That being said, I'm still not ready to turn my read here on its head. I'm more apprehensive than I was at this time yesterday, but I very much remain convinced that the Aggies can land this verbal commitment. More than ever now though, it won't be a coast into the finish line. I had written Oregon off. I even doubled down on that today on TexAgs Live. I thought the distance between Mobile and Eugene was going to be too much for them to overcome. That seems to be much less of an issue now than it was portrayed to be. Finally, another source in the state of Alabama shared some Crimson confidence last night, but the mood and tenor has shifted in the last 12-24 hours so that feeling may have waned.Long story short, Oregon is definitely back in the fight with some heavy heaves, but I think Texas A&M has enough juice to remain steadfast in the middle of the ring with Bama's hopes being tied to a double knockout.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
