Aggies drop Houston Regional opener to Texas, 8-1

The game was long-awaited, but it was over in a flash. Texas A&M fell behind early and never recovered, dominated on the mound, at the plate and in the field on Friday afternoon to drop into the loser's bracket.

HOUSTON, Texas — A week of build-up preceded the first meeting in two years between Texas A&M and Texas.

Then the Longhorns broke the Aggies down.

Errors, weak hitting and Daniel Mengden's poor start did the Aggies in against their archrival in Friday's 8-1 defeat. A&M left runners on base in each of the first six innings and Texas scored in each of the first three; as a result, the rest held little to no suspense.
