HOOVER, Ala. — “Outbreak” was a 1995 movie in which a disease rapidly spreads and threatens world health.

It was fiction.

There is no title for the pace-of-play epidemic currently spreading through college football. It’s a “plague” that might demand defensive linemen participate in nine or 10 consecutive plays (about three minutes) without substitution.

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema has called it a health risk.

That, too, is fiction.
