Through the first week of camp it seems we're no closer to knowing the eventual winner of the open quarterback spot. Saturday's scrimmage, however, will be a benchmark — and the criteria is clear.

One week into football practice and the race for Texas A&M’s starting quarterback job is a dead heat.

Well, that’s the message quarterbacks coach Jake Spavital seemed to deliver after Friday night's practice. And, of course, that message that Kenny Hill and Kyle Allen are in a dead heat was as predictable as the dreaded heat of August.

“It’s been good and it’s been very even,” Spavital said.
