Gotta Hold On: The failure to defend Myles Garrett

By now all college football observers are aware of the borderline-criminal holds Auburn got away with in its attempt to stall Texas A&M's prodigious freshman defensive end. Surely there's some sort of explanation?

The Statue of Liberty is holding a torch.

The statue of Lady Justice is holding scales.

And if Auburn ever erects a statue of tackle Shon Coleman, surely he’ll be holding Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett.

In case you didn’t see it — and if you didn’t you’re probably a Southeastern Conference football official — Garrett was routinely held during the Aggies’ 41-38 victory over Auburn last Saturday.

Of course, the old adage is that holding could be called on every play.
