Though the stat sheet may not fully reflect it yet, John Chavis' defense is transforming into a stout one before everyone's eyes. The clearest indicators of that fact in a mostly stifling performance against Mississippi State came in the form of now-characteristic big plays.

• Let's start with the fourth quarter, because John Chavis sure was pleased with how his defense performed during the final fifteen minutes of action.

The Aggies were really good throughout the entire game and actually pitched a third-quarter shutout, but it was clutch stops in the final period that kept State from ever being able to mount a rally despite having multiple chances to creep to within a score.
