Breakdown: Aggie linebackers and big-play mistakes

It's become all too common at Texas A&M, across the tenures of multiple defensive coordinators: bad breakdowns at the linebacker level leading to big plays for the other team. Against Western Carolina there were a lot of positives — and one painful teaching moment.

When an offense goes from the 18 to the 17, it’s typically a good thing for the defense.

Knocking back a running back from the 18-yard line to the 17-yard line for a one-yard tackle for a loss? That’s good.

Yielding a one-yard gain from the 18 to the 17 deep in their territory? That’s good too.

Unfortunately on Saturday night, the Western Carolina Catamount offense went from the 18 to the 17 in the second quarter and it wasn’t a good thing for the A&M defense.
