Around CFB: Big Ten outcomes now a key focus for playoff race

With the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ranked teams all losing in one day for the first time since 1985, the playoff picture is as uncertain as ever. The next few weeks in the Big 10 should provide some clarity.

Alabama is a virtual lock for the four-team College Football playoff.

The other three teams in the field will likely come from a pool of a half dozen “power five” teams that currently have one loss — Louisville, Clemson, West Virginia, Michigan, Ohio State and Washington.

For all the CFP committee talks about teams passing the “eye” test, it’s seems unlikely that a team with two losses gets in.

Unless …

There is the Penn State factor.
