Saturday tilt with Alabama crucial to Texas A&M's NIT hopes

With the NCAA Tournament out of the 2017 picture, Texas A&M is looking to the NIT for a postseason opportunity. The Aggies have some work to do if they want to get in, however. To start, they'll need to top the Crimson Tide on Saturday.

As the old saying goes: “Old ugly is better than old nothing.” Texas A&M is old ugly.

In regards to postseason college basketball, the National Invitation Tournament – which is often deridingly referred to as the "Nobody’s Interested Tournament" – is ugly compared to the prestigious NCAA Tournament.

But for Texas A&M, it’s old ugly or old nothing.

Therefore, the Aggies' Southeastern Conference basketball game against Alabama on Saturday night at Reed Arena is crucial.
