Aggies hang hopes for College World Series crown on pitching, defense

Texas A&M enters its first College World Series since 2011 as an underdog, sporting the lowest RPI of the eight-team field. But a roomy outfield at TD Ameritrade Park plays to the strengths of the Aggies team - strong pitching and reliable defense.

Technically, a crown is a hat.

Metaphorically, pitching and defense is a hat rack.

And in spacious TD Ameritrade Park, pitching and defense is the hat track on which Texas A&M (41-21) hopes to hang a crown.

Those two key elements of baseball figure to the keys to victory on Sunday as the Aggies throw their hats into the ring that is the College World Series.

“Pitching and defense is what we hang our hat on,” A&M coach Rob Childress said.
