Mum on QB starter, Sumlin is clear about progress at linebacker, defensive end

Fans and media have expected the Aggies to name a starting QB in the next few days, but Kevin Sumlin isn't tipping his hand if he's close to doing that. He did offer some new insight on player development and possible starters at linebacker and defensive end.

Texas A&M football coach Kevin Sumlin did not reveal much about the Aggies three-man quarterback competition on Saturday night but did offer encouraging words about the linebacker corps.

Earlier in August camp, Sumlin had hinted that A&M would likely name a starting quarterback for the season-opener against UCLA on Sunday or Monday. He has typically named a starter two weeks before the first game. The Aggies open against UCLA on Sunday, Sept. 3.
