Earlier this week, Texas A&M head baseball coach Rob Childress released the starting rotation for the opening weekend against Rhode Island. Junior veterans Stephen Kolek and Mitchell Kilkenny will start the Friday and Sunday games respectively. That was to be expected. Both right-handers are battle-tested and ready for the spotlight that comes with being a weekend starter at Texas A&M and in the SEC.

What wasn't expected is Saturday's starting pitcher.
