Texas A&M guard Chennedy Carter was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year on Tuesday as the league also announced its yearly women’s basketball awards. Additionally, Carter was named First Team All-SEC, while Khaalia Hillsman made the second team.

Carter received four SEC Freshman of the Week honors and lead all freshman nationally in scoring. Carter averages 21.6 points per game and scored an SEC freshman record 46 points against USC.

Texas A&M Women’s basketball has not had a freshman named to the all-conference first team since Donna Roper during her 1984-85 season.

In addition to Carter's honors. Senior center Khaalia Hillsman was named Second Team All-SEC for her second straight season.

Hillsman leads her team in shooting 60 percent from the field and averages 14.4 points per game. She has 43 blocks on the season, as well.

Texas A&M women’s basketball finished the regular season 22-6 and went 11-5 in conference play, earning the No. 5 seed in the SEC tournament. They will play in Nashville, Tennessee, on March 1 at 2 p.m. against the winner of the Vanderbilt and Arkansas.
