In theory, the best approach to Week 1 is to not wildly overreact one way or the other to a surprising result. In reality, it’s not humanly possible to do so if, for example, your favorite team gets run over at home by a Sun Belt opponent coming off a 2-10 season. Or blows an 18-point lead to suffer a loss even more excruciating than its season-opening blowout the year before. Or loses at Wyoming. Or Nevada.
