Softball (FRI): Dumezich leads A&M to 2-1 victory over Mizzou

Mel Dumezich hit a two-run home run and recorded the pitching win, leading the Aggie softball team to a 2-1 victory over 10th-ranked Missouri Friday in the Big 12 opener at the Aggie Softball Complex.

COLLEGE STATION —A&M pitcher Mel Dumezich (13-5) recorded seven strikeouts and also had a two-run home run to lead the 19th-ranked Aggies (21-8, 1-0) to a 2-1 victory over the 10th-ranked Missouri Tigers (22-4, 3-1) at the Aggie Softball Complex on Friday night.

Tiger pitcher Chelsea Thomas had not given up an earned run since February 26 (45.1 innings) until Dumezich hit a blast over the wall in right-center field, putting the Aggies up 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
