Kansas transfer forward Zach Clemence commits to Texas A&M hoops

Former Kansas forward Zach Clemence has announced his commitment to Texas A&M.

At 6-foot-11 and 230 pounds, Clemence has played sparingly for the Jayhawks over the last three seasons.

In his career, he’s averaged 1.7 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.3 blocks per game for Bill Self and the Jayhawks. Last season, he shot 44.4 percent from the field and 60 percent at the free-throw line.

He played in 24 games during Kansas’ 2022 national championship run and has appeared in over 52 games in his collegiate career.

The redshirt junior is a former consensus four-star, a top-40 recruit in the class of 2021 and will return to his home state for his senior season.

Clemence played his high school basketball for one of the top prep schools in the country, Sunrise Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas, where he averaged 10.5 points and five rebounds per game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 37 percent from 3-point range.

His Sunrise Academy team finished as the runner-up at the 2021 GEICO High School National Championship.

The best game of his career came against Oklahoma in 2023 when he had 10 points and three rebounds in just 12 minutes off the bench. Those 10 points included a 2-for-2 night from behind the arc.

With nearly ten roster spots needing to be filled, Bucky McMillan has to get creative finding depth pieces in this new era of college basketball. Bringing Clemence back to his home state will provide experience and size to his bench, which is never a bad thing to have in the SEC.

Clemence arrives in Aggieland with one year of eligibility left.

How does one become a top forty player averaging 10 ppg?

Playing for an elite high school team Sunrise Christian in Kansas that recruits from across the country! He was teammates with Gracey Dick, Kennedy Chandler, Dillon Hunter, Kendall Brown, Mark Mitchell and many other power 4 prospects

That's fair. In the past we've gotten kids from academies or powerhouses that looked better because of who was around them. Naji Hibbet comes to mind. I'm not upset with the commit. Hope he finds his stroke here.

I'm more excited about Bucky's style than the players right now, but look forward to see everyone he brings in on the court

Funny how it says he's from Texas but doesn't say where. Then he went to some boarding school in Kansas, which basically sounds like a place where KU pays for your HS and handpicks recruits. Can't imagine living in that ugly state for that long. Why would parents do that to a kid, when Duncanville would have paid him plenty?

Sunrise Christian is one of the top basketball prep school in the country along w Wasatch Academy in Utah, Compass Prep in AZ, IMG and a few others. It is by no means a Univ of Kansas feeder school. They've landed a total of 2 guys from there, one of which was Grady Dick who is from Wichita.

Thanks - they're new. I guess that's why I've never heard of them. How did they miss the chance to call it Sonrise instead of Sunrise?

I think he's from San Antonio. My son ran into them when he and Bucky were at Plucker's. I briefly looked it up and it said he was from San Antonio and grew up on a ranch before moving to Kansas for Prep-school.
