A third member of Texas A&M’s defensive line was selected in the NFL Draft on Friday when tackle Shemar Turner was taken by the Chicago Bears in the second round.

The Bears took Turner with the 62nd overall pick.

Previously, A&M defensive ends Shemar Stewart was taken in the first round by the Bengals, and Nic Scourton was taken in the second round by the Panthers.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pound Turner actually had the most productive A&M career of the three defensive linemen.

Turner came to College Station from DeSoto as the highest-rated prospect in A&M’s 2021 recruiting class.

He completed his career with 115 tackles, 10 sacks, 22.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles, while seeing time at end and tackle.

He bulked up to 300 pounds to play defensive tackle last season. But he played with a stress fracture in his leg, and his totals declined.

He still managed 36 tackles but had just two sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss.

Turner’s best season at A&M was in 2023 when he posted 33 tackles, six sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss while forcing two fumbles.
