Creighton transfer guard Pop Isaacs commits to Texas A&M basketball
Former Creighton guard Pop Isaacs has announced his commitment to Texas A&M.
At 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, Isaacs averaged 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists as a junior for the Bluejays. He shot 41 percent from the field, 38.3 percent from 3-point range and 86.2 percent at the free-throw line.
Isaacs played in just eight games at Creighton last season before a hip surgery ended his only season in Omaha. He qualified for a medical redshirt, so he still has two years of eligibility remaining if he chooses to use them.
Prior to playing for Greg McDermott, the sharpshooter spent two seasons at Texas Tech, where he started 58 games for the Red Raiders. As a sophomore, he averaged 15.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists and made the All-Big 12 Third Team.
Isaacs is the kind of shooter Bucky McMillan’s system thrives on, averaging over seven 3-point attempts per game over his career while shooting over 35 percent from 3-point land in his 67 college basketball games.
He has been a thorn in A&M’s side over the last two seasons, but will now be in the Maroon & White helping the Aggies. Last year, he put up 25 points, three rebounds, and six assists while making five of his ten 3-point attempts in Creighton’s narrow loss to A&M in the Players Era Festival.
The year before that, he went off in A&M’s exhibition game against Texas Tech, scoring 30 points while hitting six of his ten 3-point attempts. Simply put, it will be great to have Issacs on this team instead of rooting against him.
The Las Vegas native is the 10th transfer portal addition for McMillan and his staff, as they now have 12 players on their roster for next season.
