Aggie infielder Kaeden Kent selected in the third round by Yankees
A man of memorable moments adds another.
On Sunday, Texas A&M infielder Kaeden Kent was selected by the New York Yankees in the third round and 103rd overall.
Kent becomes the third Aggie off the board in the 2025 MLB Draft.
A product of Austin’s Lake Travis High School, Kent spent three years at A&M, appearing in 135 games and making 101 starts. For his Aggie career, he slashed .290/.389/.494 with 18 home runs and an even 100 RBIs.
As Michael Earley’s everyday shortstop in 2025, he started all 56 games at the position, hitting .279 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs.
A fierce competitor known for his grittiness, Kent endeared himself to the 12th Man on multiple occasions, often with the bases loaded.
Against South Carolina this April, he played a big role in a historic eight-run ninth inning as a pair of grand slams helped the Aggies walk off the Gamecocks in the series finale. Beginning the inning with a leadoff single, Kent later scored on Hayden Schott’s grand slam that trimmed A&M’s deficit to 12-11. Minutes later, again with the bases juiced, Kent magically called game and sent a rocket over the right field bullpen.
Kent tallied four grand slams throughout his time in Aggieland.
In the 2024 Bryan-College Station Super Regional vs. Oregon, he came off the bench following Braden Montgomery’s Game 1 injury and displayed his super-human clutch factor. With the Aggies trailing the Ducks 8-4 entering the seventh inning of Game 2, the Maroon & White exploded for a nine-run frame. The biggest blow came off Kent’s bat as his grand slam put A&M up 13-8 and sent Blue Bell Park into euphoria.
Throughout the 2024 postseason, Kent went 15-for-35 (.429) with two home runs and 14 RBIs. In Omaha that June, he was 10-for-24 with a home and seven RBIs, including four in Game 1 of the championship series vs. Tennessee, en route to a spot on the Men’s College World Series All-Tournament team.
The son of 2000 National League Most Valuable Player, four-time Silver Slugger and five-time all-star Jeff Kent, Kaeden is likely to begin his professional career, but would have another year of eligibility should he elect to return to school.
Ryan Brauninger’s scout of Kaeden Kent
“Ultra competitor. Mentality and work ethic stand out. Reliable, versatile defender who plays bigger than his measurables due to his want and will to win. That can be a drawback at times, but there's no worry about intent. Ball striking metrics greatly improved as a junior, but came at the cost of swing decisions. Stepped up in multiple big moments.”
