A&M infielder Wyatt Henseler selected in ninth round by Washington
An Ivy Leaguer is headed to professional baseball.
On Monday, Texas A&M linfielder Wyatt Henseler was selected by the Washington Nationals in the ninth round and 261st overall.
Henseler becomes the sixth Aggie off the board in the 2025 MLB Draft.
A native of Emmaus, Penn., Henseler came to A&M as a graduate transfer after a historic career at Penn.
In 2025, he started all 56 games, the bulk coming at third base, and hit a team-best .319 with 12 home runs and 33 RBIs to go along with a .423 on-base percentage and a .562 slugging percentage.
Proving that he could succeed in the vaunted Southeastern Conference, Henseler hit a team-best 15 doubles and recorded 16 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI performances during his one season as an Aggie.
At Penn in 2024, Henseler slashed .360/.465/.755 with 22 homers and 56 RBIs as he was unanimously voted the Ivy League’s Player of the Year to go along with first-team All-Ivy honors in three consecutive seasons (2022-2024).
Appearing in 161 games with the Quakers across four seasons, he finished his time in Philadelphia as the program’s record holder in career hits (232), runs (181) and doubles (50) to go along with his all-time Ivy League marks in home runs (54), RBIs (189) and total bases (560).
Exhausting his eligibility, Henseler had 1,032 plate appearances in 217 college games. He finishes his five-year collegiate career with 299 hits, 229 runs, 66 home runs, 222 RBIs and a slash line of .346/.440/.659 with an OPS of 1.099.
Ryan Brauninger’s scout of Wyatt Henseler
“Older player who enters professional baseball with a lot of impressive numbers on his resume in the batter's box. Good hitter. Spray chart improved in the SEC, but swing and miss increased. Steep bat path that doesn't leave much room for error on the way to the ball. Unafraid to walk or take a hit-by-pitch. Injury hampered his movement at A&M. Can move to first base if the power hangs around.”
