After a 42-24 win over UTSA in Week 1, Texas A&M is now ranked No. 19 in the latest Associated Press poll. Mike Elko and the Aggies will again be at home in Week 2 as the Maroon & White host Utah State at Kyle Field.

Slight movements, but the number that matters is in the win column.

After beating UTSA in Week 1, the 1-0 Fightin’ Texas Aggies are ranked No. 19 in the AP’s Week 2 poll.

Mike Elko & Co. were also ranked No. 22 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll following the 42-24 win over the Roadrunners.

The rankings update comes after a solid (but far from perfect) performance vs.UTSA on Saturday night.

Behind Marcel Reed, the Aggie offense unveiled new receiving weapons Mario Craver and KC Concepcion as the transfer duo combined for eight catches, 194 yards and four total touchdowns when you include Concepcion’s 80-yard punt return. With an improved tight end unit also at his disposal, Reed completed 64.7 percent of his passes for 289 yards and four scores.

While the passing game was indeed explosive (as promised), there were hiccups to clean up in the running game on both offense and defense.

The Aggie running back stable only toted the ball 13 times for 71 yards, while the Roadrunners ran for 203 yards on the A&M defense, including a 75-yard house call by Robert Henry Jr.

Still, signs of promise and reasons for optimism are there, which is why A&M is among the 10 SEC teams ranked in the Week 1 poll, along with No. 3 LSU, No. 4 Georgia, No. 7 Texas, No. 10 South Carolina, No. 13 Florida, No. 18 Oklahoma, No. 20 Ole Miss, No. 21 Alabama and No. 22 Tennessee.

A&M’s next chance to impress the pollsters comes in an 11:45 a.m. kickoff vs. Utah State on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Kyle Field.
