SEC reveals Texas A&M's conference opponents for next four seasons

The Southeastern Conference sure does love a television special.

On Tuesday evening, the league revealed the upcoming conference opponents for the next four seasons (2026-29) as the SEC transitions from an eight-game conference schedule to a nine-game model.

Remember, each school will play three annual opponents (Chris Low of On3 reported on Monday that Texas A&M’s will be Texas, LSU and Missouri – confirmed by the SEC during Tuesday’s TV special) plus six rotating games from the remaining conference schools.

Further, this model will ensure that each program will host each of the other 15 schools and travel to each away venue at least once over the next four years.

Here’s the notable...notes...as it relates to the Aggies:

• Lone Star Showdown: For the “never again” crowd, one of the SEC’s top priorities was protecting traditional rivalries. Aggies vs. Longhorns certainly fits the bill, whether it’s on Thanksgiving Day or not. The league will also protect “final week” matchups, such as the Iron Bowl (Alabama-Auburn) and the Egg Bowl (Ole Miss-Mississippi State). Expect the Lone Star Showdown to remain in late November.
• Annual matchups with LSU and Missouri: Aggies and Bayou Bengals will continue to cross the Sabine each year, while a former Big 12 matchup with Mizzou is somehow protected. Indeed, Texas and LSU are traditional rivals for the Maroon & White, but how did the SEC fit Missouri into that when, say, Arkansas (or even the James Bonham Trophy with South Carolina) exists? Mike Elko doesn’t know either.
• Georgia: Infamously, the Bulldogs have yet to come to Kyle Field...even after 14 years as conference cohorts. That changes in 2027. Additionally, the Ags will travel to Sanford Stadium for just the second time in 2029. A&M lost a 19-13 decision in Athens back in 2019.
• Kentucky: Less glamourous than the point above, A&M still hasn’t visited Lexington as members of the SEC, but the Ags went to the Blue Grass state back in 1953. There’s an obvious Bear Bryant tie-in when it comes to an Aggies-Wildcats matchup, and the Maroon & White will visit Kroger Field in 2028. It’ll be a chance to say “Howdy” to old friend Mark Stoops...or will it?
• SEC brand names are back: A&M missed both Alabama and Tennessee in 2024 and 2025. The Ags will go back to Tuscaloosa in 2026 before hosting the Tide in 2028, while they’ll see the Vols in Aggieland next fall and go to Knoxville in 2028. Georgia also fits this billing, but we already discussed the four-time national champions. While not an “SEC” blue blood, A&M and Oklahoma will renew an old Big 12 South series in Norman in 2026, with the return coming in 2028.
• “High-quality” non-conference games: The SEC requires each member to schedule at least one matchup with schools from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 or Notre Dame each season. With the home-and-home against the Irish ending in 2025, what’s next for the Aggies? As a reminder, Arizona State comes to Kyle Field in 2026, with a return to Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe set for 2027. A home-and-home vs. Louisville set to kick off in Aggieland on Sept. 2, 2028.

Lastly, because the SEC loves TV specials, the official 2026 schedule will be announced at a later date.
