Key notes from Gavin Lyons interview
- My next step is to keep filling up the zone and giving myself more opportunities. I need to work on my cutter. It's backing up on me a little bit right now. If I can get two or three more pitches that I can throw in the zone, I'll be alright.
- I don't think I had one specific game that told me I could do this or start pitching more at this level. Through the season, I was confident in myself and ready for any opportunity given to me. I was just ready for anything.
- That game at Georgia, I came in on that Friday in the third inning. I think I walked the first guy, and then the second guy hit a pretty far home run off of me. I like how it didn't affect me because I came back for the next two innings and did pretty well.
- We put too much pressure on ourselves last year and didn't have that "fun" factor. We were too worried about winning games last year. Right now, we're already clicking, and it's going to be really good.
- Luke Billings can swing it a little bit, too. There are a lot of really talented newcomers on the hitting side.
- The new pitchers got in here and started doing what we're doing really quickly. They're taking it one pitch at a time and trusting our process. They're good. They're really good. Hunter Vincent is good.
- Our catchers are good. Zane Becker has an arm on him. We've seen it a couple of times already in the fall. He has thrown a couple of guys out. They're good. I don't have much more to say other than they're good.
- The hitters are doing some wacky stuff right now on the bases.
Key notes from Weston Moss interview
- Ever since I got here, I have been behind those guys and watching what they do. Ryan Prager, Justin Lamkin and all the starters, I know I can build on that and do good just like they did.
- I want a dominant fast ball. I have the offspeed, and the fastball has been something I was lacking.
- Ultra confidence is what we take pride in. No matter what age you are, just go out there and have fun, play hard, and throw strikes. That is very important. With opportunities, if you don’t throw strikes, you don’t have opportunities.
- I started feeling sick on the plane to Tennessee. I had a runny nose, and I was sneezing a bunch. It didn’t affect me until Tennessee and Arkansas. I felt fine. I wasn’t eating as much, and the adrenaline pushed me through. My face got super skinny, and I lost 15 pounds really quickly. It kind of ate at me, even if it wasn’t affecting me. I was thinking about it. That Texas series is hard on your confidence. That ate at me for a while, then after LSU, I felt good. I tried to pick it back up. We just ran out of time.
- We aren’t going to dwell on last year. Clean slate. We are going to go out there and play hard. We had the talent, just not the link. So this year, we are going to come together, and even if we are less talented, we are going to outperform.
- Jorian Wilson has a first-round swing. Boston Kellner is good, too. He always has a good at-bat. Nico Partida is great. He spent some time with us. There are a lot of names. Hunter Vincent has been really good.
- I think a lot of guys are going to come out of their shells and show themselves, and people are going to love them. I know Aiden Sims is great. I think there are a lot of guys who are on edge who are about to blow up.
- It is going to be fun to pitch in front of the 12th Man. It has been a while. I didn’t start many games last year, so it is always fun starting, a new experience each time. It is fun to pitch against someone in a different jersey.
- Bear Harrison is great. He is moving well and getting quicker. His throw-downs to second are getting better. If he just stays who he is, he is going to be fine.
- Guys like Chris Hacopian are first-rounders. Pitching to first-rounders is great practice. You are going to see guys that are good like that in season, so working with them in practice has been good.
