Texas A&M now SEC's highest-ranked team at No. 4 in AP's Week 8 poll

For the first time since the final poll in 2020, the Fightin' Texas Aggies are up to No. 4 in the latest Associated Press top 25. With a 34-17 win on Saturday at Kyle Field, Texas A&M is now 6-0 on the year and 3-0 in Southeastern Conference play.

They keep climbing.

For a sixth consecutive week, Texas A&M has ascended even further in the Associated Press poll as the Aggies are now ranked No. 4 in the Week 8 top 25.

It is the program’s highest ranking in the AP poll since finishing No. 4 after a 9-1 Orange Bowl championship campaign in 2020.

Further, the Aggies are now the highest-ranked SEC team.

Since starting the year ranked No. 19, the Aggies consistently and steadily impressed more and more AP voters:

The Ags also rank No. 4 in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

At 6-0 for just the second time since 1994 and now 3-0 in SEC play for a second consecutive year, Elko & Co. continue getting the job done.

And just like the 90s, they’re doing it with a dominant defense.

After limiting Florida to just 74 rushing yards in a 34-17 victory on Saturday night, A&M has limited three straight conference opponents to under 80 yards on the ground. It is the first time an Aggie defense has held three consecutive SEC foes from reaching 100 rushing yards since 2021.

Oh, and just in case you’re still on the fence about starting the chant: Texas A&M’s defense ranks fifth nationally in sacks with 21, led by Cashius Howell’s eight. The Aggies are suffocating on third-downs, holding SEC opponents to just two conversions on 34 chances.

Wreck-ing Crew... Wreck-ing Crew... Wreck-ing Crew...

A&M and its “new” Crew defense are followed by nine other SEC teams currently ranked among the AP’s top 25, joining No. 5 Ole Miss, No. 6 Alabama, No. 9 Georgia, No. 10 LSU, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 14 Oklahoma, No. 16 Missouri, No. 17 Vanderbilt and No. 21 Texas.

Next for the Ags is a road trip to the hills of Northwest Arkansas for motorcycle night afternoon against Arkansas (2-4, 0-2) on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 2:30 p.m. CT.
