Texas A&M reaches No. 3 in Associated Press poll for first time since '95

The ‘90s are back in style.
Equipped with a 7-0 record for the first time since 1994, Texas A&M is now ranked No. 3 in the latest Associated Press poll.
It represents A&M’s highest ranking in the AP poll since Week 5 of the 1995 season.
Additionally, Mike Elko and the Aggies are up to No. 3 in the US LBM Coaches Poll.
Further, it marks the second consecutive season the Maroon & White have started 4-0 in Southeastern Conference play under Elko. Indeed, it is the first time the Aggies have gotten off to such a start in league action since R.C. Slocum’s 1993 and 1994 teams that won the Southwest Conference and would have won the SWC (and maybe more) if not being ineligible, respectively.
However, Saturday’s showing vs. Arkansas differs starkly from Slocum’s 90s Wrecking Crew defenses.
In a 45-42 win, the Aggies allowed Bobby Petrino & Co. to rack up 527 yards of offense.
Yet masterful Marcel Reed was magical, accounting for 335 yards and four touchdowns to lead A&M to its 13th win over Arkansas in the last 14 meetings.
Once again, Elko’s crew showed they can win in different ways.
Once again, they pace the SEC.
Indeed, the Aggies are the highest-ranked of the ten SEC teams in the Week 9 edition of the AP poll, as No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Georgia, No. 8 Ole Miss, No. 10 Vanderbilt, No. 13 Oklahoma, No. 15 Missouri, No. 17 Tennessee, No. 20 LSU and No. 22 Texas follow behind.
Next for A&M is a Louisiana Saturday night in Death Valley against the battered Bayou Bengals on Oct. 25.
This week’s trip offers yet another chance for the Maroon & White to bring '90s styles back to Aggieland.
