Daymion Sanford named SEC's Co-Defensive Player of the Week

For the second time this season, Daymion Sanford has picked up a weekly honor as the SEC has named the Aggie linebacker as the league's SEC co-Defensive Player of the Week. In the 38-17 win at Mizzou, he had five tackles, two TFLs and a game-changing strip sack.

Make it two for the Katy Paetow kid.

Now much more than a quality backup, Texas A&M linebacker Daymion Sanford has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance vs. Missouri

Sanford shares the honor with Kentucky linebacker Daveren Rayner.

In the Aggies' 38-16 win in Columbia, Sanford had five tackles, two solo stops, a strip-sack and two TFLs. He was also credited with a QB hurry.

As a unit, A&M sacked Mizzou’s Matt Zollers twice and hurried him on two more occasions.

“I feel like we did pretty good disrupting him,” Sanford said postgame. “I feel like he didn't get a lot of reads that he wanted. I feel like we did a really pretty good job of caging him.”

The junior linebacker’s biggest game-changing contribution came late in the first half.

With less than a minute before halftime and A&M up 7-0, Sanford blitzed right by the right tackle and got home on Zollers. The ball popped into the air and right into the waiting hands of Dalton Brooks, who returned the fumble to the Mizzou 2-yard line.

Two plays later, the Ags led 14-0 and never looked back.

“It was a third-down situation,” Sanford said. “We were just trying to get the freshman quarterback. On my blitz, I tried to beat the tackle, and ultimately I hit home. I was surprised that (Brooks) got the ball because I looked up and I saw him running.”

As one of A&M’s top defenders, Sanford has accumulated 38 total tackles, 18 solo stops, 8.5 TFLs and 3.5 sacks this season.

This is also his second SEC weekly honor of the year. He was previously honored following his performance vs. Mississippi State.

Glad he was recognized as he made some big plays. However, I think he was responsible for two of the big runs.

Not sure and don't care about your statement concerning his "responsibility " on the long runs but he played lights out and if the coaches noticed some errors that were significant, the coaches and players would address them

this is probably the 20th time i have made this statement but this kid is a superstar. some people have a knack for making big plays. think troy palamaleu. Sanford is a stud who makes a big play almost every game.
