He is an icon of Aggie football, and one of my all-time favorites. Happy to know he is doing well.

Key notes from Edd Hargett interview
- My golf game is OK.
- Well, it’s great to be out here. The Legends & Letterman is for a good cause, for the Boys and Girls Club. We get to be a part of it, and it’s always good to get out and play golf.
- Occasionally, they ask me about being a running QB. I’ve told the story about that Texas Tech game. It’s one of those things that just happened. I knew I had a free play, so it wasn't just all or nothing. They jumped off sides, and we got a good block at the OL.
- I thought last season was great. Mike Elko would tell you they have to do things right at the end of the year, and when they do that, they'll be competing for a national title. It’s a different world with NIL, with the portal and all that. It's just a different world.
- My grandson, Will Hargett, walked on last year. He’s a quarterback, but tore his arm up last year. Now he’s playing wide receiver at A&M.
- It’s exciting for him. He had so much fun last year, so if he gets some playing time, I don’t know what will happen.
- I don't know the answer to cleaning up NIL, but it’s got to be something. Maybe Dabo Swinney’s proposal, or something where the guys can’t just go somewhere else. We had a football reunion last weekend and thought, what are those kids going to do when they go to four different colleges?
- That’s what A&M is all about. It’s awfully hard to get that genie back in the bottle.
- I think that’s what Swinney was. If the coach leaves, you're free to go.
- We were talking, and one of the guys I played with said we thought it wouldn't be great to get out of school in three years, but seven years is a little too long.
- I went to one practice. Marcel Reed has become more decisive. The one thing he needs to work on is his accuracy. That comes with knowing your receivers. Once he works with his receivers in the fall, that's what he’s got to do. Take off and run with that sucker, and that's the biggest difference.
- I think it becomes easier when you see things. In my day, you didn't have all these complicated plays. You didn't have that reading before the ball was snapped. I think you get better, more accurate and used to the guys you're playing with.
- I backed up Billy Kilmer, but I was there with Archie Manning. It was a good time.
- The first year it stayed hurt, and I got to play a lot.
