10 seconds is pretty harsh for that…will McLaren protest?
I don't think it's that harsh. I know there were complaints about hard braking under safety cars in the past. Plus I don't think the stewards don't want to **** around with safety car issues. SOmeone really could get seriously injured.

EDIT: Just remembered the last death in F1 was Jules Bianchi who lost control during yellow flags in a wet race and slid into some machinery. Def a freak accident but I bet that also influences decisions like this

Apparently they announced at the track that F1 Academy is racing at Silverstone next year...so that makes Silverstone the second GP to have the full F2-F3-F1 Academy package (Barcelona 2024 had it)...

Metallica also happens to be playing two nights in London that weekend. WAY tempted to make a trip back to Silverstone now lol

Where have you sat previously at Silverstone? We're toying around with the idea of going next year (for the first time) and looking at different grandstand and hospitality options

I did Becketts, it was great, plus it was covered so was safe from the rain (it was 2022 when the quali rained hard and Sainz got the pole then his first win).
The grandstands there all have funny names, Maggots, Copse, kinda hard to memorize your way there lol.
Got confirmation F1A is there next year so I'll likely be on the hunt for tickets come september. A race weekend loaded with all the feeders doesn't come around often

I did Stow back in 98 but it was covered then. I wouldn't sit anywhere that isn't covered. Traffic can also be really bad since there aren't many places to stay nearby. Might be worth looking into a paid shuttle to get there

I was planning on Monaco next year but might have to switch it to Silverstone

Same, Monaco and Spa are the ones I keep missing. I'm thinking Jeddah next year as well just to cross that one off.
That one has F2 and F1A as well

Miami is losing F1 Academy support so I have no reason to go now that it's gonna be single seater support-less just like Austin

Regarding the Piastri penalty. We can all look at it in a vacuum and say what he did was dangerous, but he did exactly the same thing 4 laps earlier with almost the same brake pressure and mph reduction. In that case the response from Verstappen wasn't crazy. The stewards looked at it and no penalty or warning was assessed. Then 4 laps later, it happens again and this time Verstappen looks like he has to take evasive maneuvers and ultimately passes Piastri. Personally, I believe this penalty was planned by and caused by Verstappen knowing it was coming and embellishing the optics.

No shot. Lando did the same thing to Max a few weeks back then tried to complain and get Max penalized. Its strategy for McLaren on the restart to play games then try to get the jump.

Honestly, it's a risk/reward game that the drivers play at practically every safety car restart. If you plan it and execute it well, you can get a good jump and either rebuild a solid lead if you are the lead car or get a jump on the lead car and catch them "napping" and overtake them. If you don't execute it correctly, you can end up with a penalty or even worse cause a collision.

Maybe Piastri's penalty was harsh, but he was playing that game.

That video describes the restart 4 laps prior to this incident in which the stewards looked at the same act by Piastri and determined it did not warrant a penalty or warning. That restart resulted in a 5.5 mph less deceleration vs the penalized restart. So 5.5 mph was the difference in a penalty? Or was the penalty more associated with Verstappens response?

Maybe the stewards decided the timing was the issue. 4 laps earlier Piastri did it well before the safety cars lights went off. The second time (penalized) he did it as the safety cars lights were going off. Seems it would be easy to figure out if he applied the brakes before or after the safety cars lights went off.
