Quote:
You have two fuses (long strings like the ones used to light dynamite). Each of the fuses is a different length, but is guaranteed to burn for exactly one hour when you light the end. Unfortunately, the fuses do not burn at a constant rate. One fuse may burn 5 inches in 5 minutes, then a whole foot the next minute. My fuse solution:
Light fuse 1 at one end at time 0.
Light fuse 2 at both ends at time 0, so it burns up in 30 minutes.
When fuse 2 burns up, light the other end of fuse 1 which will half the remaining time and finish at 45 minutes.
