It's easier to jump to conclusions and **** on someone for a lot of these folks it seems.

They take attendance in college?
I don't think that ever happened for me.

It's much easier, you're right.
Good luck with your prof. You're doing the exact same **** all of these critics did when they were your age, except we didn't have QR codes to scan to prove our butt was in a seat. You're doing just fine. Absolutely do talk to your prof, though! Don't avoid the confrontation.

What a surprise. GB criticizes college student for not acting grown up when they are a teenager/barely not a teenager, and yet they themselves are grown men and cannot resist but sexualize something when a woman is involved. Shocking.

I don't see outrage, you must be overreacting. You're so dramatic.

All I asked was how to explain this situation to my professor. I am aware I ****ed up.

I don't understand what the big deal is.
Whether or not you're drunk, stoned, hungover doesn't matter. It's completely immaterial to the issue.
The issue was attendance. Whether or not you were there. Not how you answered the question. Not that you were hungover/drunk.
These are the facts:
- prof uses some type of system to check attendance.
- you were in attendance as evidenced by your participation.
That's it. That's the end.
Keep it to that. All the other stuff is noise. Apologize saying you didn't mean any disrespect with your answer, you truly didn't know. Tell him the class and attendance are important to you. Ask him to reconsider absence since you were in class. If you can reference notes or slides or other things from the lecture that would be good.
If he doesn't, go to department head or dean.
The prof came up with the attendance system. It was his idea. If he doesn't have confidence in his own system maybe he should try something else.

Wholeheartedly agree with this. Full stop. Thread over.

I can totally relate. I'm in my 40s and at least one a year I go to school and realize I'm pantsless (my son actually did this in kindergarten wearing a long Stars jersey and forgot pants.)
More commonly though I haven't been to school all semester and happen to show up for finals. Can't even remember where my locker is.
I think at some point that actually ends. I'm 59 and haven't had that dream in several years.
